Ela consiste na tomada de comprimidos antes da rela\u00e7\u00e3o sexual, que permitem ao organismo estar preparado para enfrentar um poss\u00edvel contato com o HIV. Deve ser utilizada com a tomada de 2 comprimidos de 2 a 24 horas antes da rela\u00e7\u00e3o sexual, + 1 comprimido 24 horas ap\u00f3s a dose inicial de dois comprimidos + 1 comprimido 24 horas ap\u00f3s a segunda dose. A PrEP sob demanda \u00e9 indicada para pessoas que tenham habitualmente rela\u00e7\u00e3o sexual com frequ\u00eancia menor do que duas vezes por semana E que consigam planejar quando a rela\u00e7\u00e3o sexual ir\u00e1 ocorrer.  Al\u00e9m disso, as evid\u00eancias cient\u00edficas garantem a seguran\u00e7a e efic\u00e1cia da PrEP sob demanda somente para algumas popula\u00e7\u00f5es.
